We also have it in our accounting procedures that fundraising money that is not specifically designated is used prior to any budgeted funds. For example, our youth group raises funds throughout the year, however those funds "belong" to the youth raising the funds until the mission trip, at that point the funds are used to pay for the trip. When the youth group raises funds for general youth purposes, then that money would be used prior to any budgeted money given to them. That would "free up" budgeted money to be used for other purposes.

If your accounting software doesn't allow for classes, try to set up an excel spreadsheet to keep the funds separate.

----- Original Message -----
From: "Brenda Berry" <cwstan@earthlink.net>
To: "Local Church Finance Committee and Treasurers" <lcfinance@listserv.nccumc.org>
Sent: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 1:33:59 PM (GMT-0500) America/New_York
Subject: Re: [LCFinance] FW: Non Contributions to the church

How do you all handle contributions like fundraisers for groups that have money given them through the budget but need to raise money from bake sales ect. in your accounting procedures? Our pastor wants to keep separate the acutal contributions for the church from the fundraisers. We are using Church Windows as our accounting program.

Thank you for any insight that you may be able to give.
