[LCFinance] Sunday Collections

We just instituted a new policy for handling the major church offering.
We have teams of counters(2 unrelated per team) that count once a month.
They prepare the deposit at the church on Sunday after the service, then
drop the deposit in the night drop at our bank. The financial secretary
gets the deposit envelopes and totals from the deposit, but never
touches the money. The treasurer gets a small report on the dollar
amounts and if any are designated for special funds. That way, we limit
the number of people who touch the money and the places the money "goes"
to.

Our counters prefer to work after the service, but I would think placing
the money in a safe place(lockable fire proof file cabinet, safe, etc.)
until the next day would also be acceptable.

I thought all monies were to be counted the day of collections, either
during service or immediately following, then deposited.

Our finance committee is in the process of reviewing the church
procedure for safe-guarding Sunday offering until our ?counters? come in
on Monday. We currently deposit the money off-site but our chair seems
to think this raises more of a security risk by moving the money in and
out rather than holding on to the money until the next day. Would anyone
like to volunteer their thoughts, not necessarily your church
procedures, on what works and what doesn?t? Thanks for help!

What we do here is the counters count the money on Sunday and then
deposit
into nite drop at bank. On Monday morning, we go back to the bank,

pick up money and bring back to church to recount and enter into
computer,
then deposit on Monday afternoon. It works great for us.

Hope this helps,

Candy Brown

Wendi,
We count our money the same day. We have several members count the
money
and then the finance secretary take the money home and deposits it the
next day.

We also have counters who count the money after church on Sunday & then
puts it in our church safe. The Financial secretary comes in on Monday
morning & enters it all in the computer & then makes the weekly deposit.
This has been successful for us. Sometimes, though, we might have
trouble getting counters.
