[LCFinance] Sunday Collections

Wendy, we place our offering into a safe at the church. I have had the unpleasant experience of my wife bringing home church money that was stolen during a break in. Lucky for us it was for her UMW group and was not a large sum of money. However, we felt responsible to replace the money stolen. I would recommend looking into a drop off box at the bank for the day of collection or away to secure the money on site at the church. Someone from the finance committee is responsible for placing the money in the safe each Sunday. Even though there are a handful of people with access to the safe, it has never presented a problem.

Our finance committee is in the process of reviewing the church procedure for safe-guarding Sunday offering until our ‘counters’ come in on Monday. We currently deposit the money off-site but our chair seems to think this raises more of a security risk by moving the money in and out rather than holding on to the money until the next day. Would anyone like to volunteer their thoughts, not necessarily your church procedures, on what works and what doesn’t? Thanks for help!
